Several community-wide youth development efforts have started-up and fizzled-out over the years. This includes a city sponsored `prevention council', a 40 Assets approach, and youth programming through an organization called Q-CARE.

These three previous efforts - and probably many others - fizzled out due to one of two factors: 1) lack of stable funding, and/or 2) lack of paid staff (a coordinator).

In 2003 Quincy began participation with the CTC.   A Community Coordinator was hired, and a community board was developed.

Since fall of 2004, Quincy CTC has offered Guiding Good Choices & Smart Moves. Strategic Tutoring has been offered since January of 2005. Majority of funds for these three programs has come from the CTC.

2006 saw two notable forms recognition for the Community Coordinator. In June, the Coordinator received the `Bob Skidmore Award' - a recognition of prevention providers sponsored by PARC [Prevention And Recovery Center], the county-level prevention agency. In October, the Coordinator was inducted into a statewide 'After-school Hall of Fame'. This hall of fame is sponsored by an organization called School's Out Washington.

2006 CTC Youth Survey results, released in the fall of 2006, showed promising trends in many areas. For example, our targeted risk factors have been steadily trending downward since CTC planning began, and we've seen a marked reduction in binge drinking rates of 8th graders.
